You Know You’re Canadian When…

in Fashion, Outfit Post on 01/11/18

Winter outfit idea, from petite Canadian fashion blogger, Jackie from Something About That, who's wearing a Canada Goose jacket and a bulky scarf from Anthropologie

You know you’re Canadian when…you shoot outdoor blog photos when it’s -20°C (-4 °F)!

Okay, I won’t lie. That shoot was incredibly painful, but at the same time, it was a fun adventure. It had been quite a while since Matt and I shot any photos together and earlier in the week, we discussed the idea of shooting over the weekend. At the time, we didn’t anticipate the frigid temperatures, but when the weekend came, we decided to go with it anyways.

We ended up at a local golf course, which meant we had a bit of a hike to find a good spot to shoot at. It only took about 10 seconds before we were both freezing. His fingers were half frozen and my glasses kept fogging up from my breath, but we survived! After our quick shoot (that felt like a long one!), we went to a local coffee shop to defrost. Apparently, we’re gluttons for punishment because after we finished our drinks, we went out again to shoot more photos! In hindsight, I’m really glad we did, because the lighting was beautiful and I love how those shots turned out.

Simple Things That Make Me Happy:

On another note, today I read an awesome post from my friend Rach of RD’s Obsessions. She shared a list of some of the simple things in life that make her happy. I agree with almost everything on her list and I was inspired share some more little things that make me happy:

  • That first bite of a delicious meal
  • And on a similar note, that first sip of an amazing coffee (or glass of wine…or beer)
  • Having a really awesome conversation with someone
  • Waking up right before my alarm goes off in the morning
  • That feeling you get, right after completing a workout
  • Feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin
  • Doing something that’s just a little bit crazy (like shooting blog photos outdoors on one of the coldest days of the year) 🙂

Boy do I know the feeling. My last three outfit posts I took in -2 degree F weather – and in one of them I was in a dress with no sleeves, no tights, and no coat. I remember thinking, “I’m going to die and it will be for the stupidest reason!”
I LOVE your coat by the way! And your boots are too cute!

I KNOWWWWWW – It was definitely one of the coldest days I’ve ever shot in. Typically, I wouldn’t leave the house when it’s that cold either! haha

2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all r 2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all remember. It’s been a big rollercoaster, but there’s no one else I’d rather ride it with than @woodley.matt 🥰

We’ve endured so.many.challenges this year...but we’ve also had some of the best and most exciting moments of our lives this year.

I still can’t believe we bought a house, got engaged AND got a puppy this year (all within a month)! 🤯

Nobody knows what 2021 will bring, but what we do know is, it will start the same way 2020 ended: at home.

I also know we will finally be finishing and moving into our new home in early 2021, and I CANNOT WAIT!! As for wedding plans...ehh, it’s a little tricky to plan these days, so we’ll cross that bridge a little later 😜

Wishing you all a safe and happy new year at home! 🥳 (which I’m totally okay with - I’m a 👵🏻 anyways)

Now that these have been gifted, I can share these Now that these have been gifted, I can share these!

I picked up knitting needles for the first time in 10+ years (maybe more?!) at the start of the pandemic. I bought a DIY unicorn kit and it took me months before I got around to finishing it. Still, I enjoyed it.

So, this year, I thought it would be fun to knit up a few gifts for Christmas presents.

My next project? I’m going to attempt to knit myself a cardigan. 🤭😲🤗

Christmas 2020 - like many things this year, not “normal,” but we made plenty of memories.

We had a low-key Christmas morning, filled with Bailey’s coffee, Miller snuggles (and weird facial expressions) and cinnamon buns. We finished off the day with a Jewish Christmas dinner: Chinese take out!

I’m finishing up the last of the gifting projects and then it’s onto baking cookies! 💁🏼‍♀️

I *think* I know what I’ll be baking...but I’m having a tough time committing 🤪

I love how these little toques (aka: beanies) turned out. I also had a couple extras in a different yarn, so I added string and threw them on the tree!

Happy thanksgiving!! 🍂🍁 Even though it hasn Happy thanksgiving!! 🍂🍁

Even though it hasn’t been a “normal” Thanksgiving weekend, there is so much to be thankful for.

One (very) small thing I’m thankful for is that I took Matt’s advice on forgoing my usual butter-only pie crust recipe for one that includes shortening. I used the pumpkin pie recipe from @sallysbakeblog - including the mix of shortening and butter in the crust. I think it was my best pumpkin pie yet!
(The Turkey was fantastic too of course 😏)
