This Week’s Reads, Eats and Buys

Good morning and happy Sunday!

This morning, I’m heading downtown for brunch. Yes, I realize I say that almost every single week. What can I say? This girl loves her brunch! Two of my favourite East Coast bloggers, Kayla from Short Presents and Sarah from Boho and Braids are in town for Toronto Women’s Fashion Week and will be joining us for brunch. I’ve been “Internet friends” with them for a long time now, but we’ve never met in real life. I feel like I already know both of them so well, so I can’t wait to meet them.

Make sure to follow along on my Instagram Stories – I’ll be sure to share some of our shenanigans today.

In the meantime, here’s this week’s edition of reads, eats and buys!

Favourite Reads:

  • Aimee Song on What Bloggers Actually Do During Fashion Week – I think this one is appropriate, don’t you think?
  • It Doesn’t Interest Me What You Do For a Living – Somehow, I’ve always felt defined by my job title.
  • This is Why the Strongest Girls Feel Insecure All The Time – A lot of people struggle with insecurity, myself included.
  • How To Apply Lightroom Presets to Edit Videos – I had no idea you could do this!

Favourite Eats:

  • Shrimp Cakes – Like crab cakes, but cheaper and healthier.
  • Lemon Garlic Roasted Chicken – How amazing does this chicken sound?!
  • Salted Caramel Chocolate Coconut Bark – I realize that’s a mouthful, but I’m eager to try this, since Chocolate Chex are now available in Canada.
  • Instant Pot Pho – I’ll admit, I’m not sure that I’d make pho myself, but this recipe sounds simple and delicious.

Favourite Buys:

  • Printed Off The Shoulder Top – Isn’t this top pretty for spring?
  • Old Navy First-Layer Fitted Tank in Tall – These are the tank tops I mentioned on my IG Story. I’ve been wearing these for a few years, but recently discovered that they’re even better in “tall.” Despite only being 5’1″, I love the added length.
  • Cluse Rose Gold Watch – I’ve been on a watch kick lately, and I love this pretty, girly option.
  • American Eagle Denim Ripped Jeggings – The wash and all of the rips look perfect!
  • Soludos Leather Platform Smoking Slipper – I just received these in the mail the other day and I can’t wait to wear them.

2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all r 2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all remember. It’s been a big rollercoaster, but there’s no one else I’d rather ride it with than @woodley.matt 🥰

We’ve endured so.many.challenges this year...but we’ve also had some of the best and most exciting moments of our lives this year.

I still can’t believe we bought a house, got engaged AND got a puppy this year (all within a month)! 🤯

Nobody knows what 2021 will bring, but what we do know is, it will start the same way 2020 ended: at home.

I also know we will finally be finishing and moving into our new home in early 2021, and I CANNOT WAIT!! As for wedding plans...ehh, it’s a little tricky to plan these days, so we’ll cross that bridge a little later 😜

Wishing you all a safe and happy new year at home! 🥳 (which I’m totally okay with - I’m a 👵🏻 anyways)

Now that these have been gifted, I can share these Now that these have been gifted, I can share these!

I picked up knitting needles for the first time in 10+ years (maybe more?!) at the start of the pandemic. I bought a DIY unicorn kit and it took me months before I got around to finishing it. Still, I enjoyed it.

So, this year, I thought it would be fun to knit up a few gifts for Christmas presents.

My next project? I’m going to attempt to knit myself a cardigan. 🤭😲🤗

Christmas 2020 - like many things this year, not “normal,” but we made plenty of memories.

We had a low-key Christmas morning, filled with Bailey’s coffee, Miller snuggles (and weird facial expressions) and cinnamon buns. We finished off the day with a Jewish Christmas dinner: Chinese take out!

2020 is the year of the handwritten, handmade card 2020 is the year of the handwritten, handmade card - at least, at my house! Actually, it’s more than cards being handmade these days 😌

I’m finishing up the last of the gifting projects and then it’s onto baking cookies! 💁🏼‍♀️

I *think* I know what I’ll be baking...but I’m having a tough time committing 🤪

I love how these little toques (aka: beanies) turned out. I also had a couple extras in a different yarn, so I added string and threw them on the tree!

Happy thanksgiving!! 🍂🍁 Even though it hasn Happy thanksgiving!! 🍂🍁

Even though it hasn’t been a “normal” Thanksgiving weekend, there is so much to be thankful for.

One (very) small thing I’m thankful for is that I took Matt’s advice on forgoing my usual butter-only pie crust recipe for one that includes shortening. I used the pumpkin pie recipe from @sallysbakeblog - including the mix of shortening and butter in the crust. I think it was my best pumpkin pie yet!
(The Turkey was fantastic too of course 😏)
