Now that we’re into mid-September, I feel like it’s the best time of the year to shop for clothing, yet I’ve been struggling to put outfits together! I know there’s a lot to choose from in my closet, but I’ve just had nothing to wear.
I know, I know, it’s a #firstworldproblem at its finest…
Seriously though, it happens to all of us, and I find it’s a common feeling during transitional seasons when the weather doesn’t match what’s in stores.
In order to overcome this slump, I’ve been looking on Pinterest each morning for some inspiration, but that was just the temporary solution.
This weekend, I did my Semi-Annual Closet overhaul. I took out anything super summery that I won’t wear until next year (here’s looking at you, neon pink) and replaced those items with my fall/winter clothes. I enjoy this overhaul way too much, because I love the rediscovery of clothes and perfectly organized shelves. It’s something we should all do at the beginning of the season, because it’s easy to forget about certain items and re-buy them without realizing. Yes, I did that the other day (and returned).
One of the first fall-like items I put on this year was a burgundy cardigan, since my love for burgundy is just as strong as ever. I wore a similar outfit last winter, so this is my fall version of the look. And yes, if you read this post, you will notice it’s the same cardigan, but in a different colour. I love my basics!
What I’m Wearing:
Cardigan – American Apparel (Same, Similar)
Dress – Old Navy (Similar)
Bag – Roots (Same)
Shoes – Marc Fisher via Winners (Similar, Similar)
Have you switched over to your fall wardrobe yet?

I haven’t switched over yet because the temperatures keep fluctuating! That and I’m still not ready for fall. Not until the calendar says it’s fall.
Jackie says
I know, I’m never really ready for fall either, but it’s cooled down a lot up here, so there’s no more avoiding it at this point (unfortunately)

Such a cute look! I love the cardi and leopard belt together. I am so not ready for fall… I feel like summer just started.

I feel like summer never actually got here after the slow start and colder than normal temps this year. Totally unfair!

I need to do a closet overhaul. I tell myself this every season and never get to it! On a good note, I’m loving burgundy too and the combo of black and burgundy is amazing!

So cute! I love the color of that cardigan. Oh and I totally know how you feel about having a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. Happens to me ALL of the time. It boggles my husband’s mind.

The colors are very fall. I’ve been thinking I may add some lowlights to my hair for fall…the bright blond is meshing with all the moody autumn elements.

What would we do without Pinterest? I’d seriously be lost. Loving the darker colors and lip. I keep thinking I am going to break out a bold lip!

I love reworking old pieces, too! It definitely is challenging sometimes when you aren’t inspired by your own wardrobe, which as you said, is a first world issue.
Great look and I love your hair, too!

That sweater looks so cozy! I know exactly what you mean about transition outfits. There are things I want to wear, but some days it’s not cool enough and then I’m at a loss. Luckily, it’s been pretty cool out the past two days!

So beautiful! For someone who is struggling to put together outfits, you definitely nailed this one! I love your necklace and burgundy looks so lovely on you!
But yeah I know exactly what you mean on not having anything to wear while staring at an exploding closet. It’s the time when I feel like I want to just donate my entire closet and start over (if just that wasn’t so wasteful…and expensive…)

I love this cardigan. It is such a wonderful color. You look great! I love the switch to fall fashion. Wearing dresses and boots are my favorite.

Great look, as always. The colours are really complimentary too. I don’t really own enough clothes to remove my warmer weather ones for colder but I have switched them so that the autumn/winter ones are closer to the front.

I was just talking about this with another blogger, but it is so hard to find inspiration for dressing once fall hits! I think you’re outfit is totally perfect for fall, though! Loving the sweater and necklace!

Burgundy is the best color – it’s so easy to match and universally flattering, I think. I love the variation in color in this longer cardigan!

I am actually doing the same thing in my closet. Donating, reselling and keeping some that I still want to wear next year. Yeah we need to do this at least twice a year to get into account what we have in our closet. It is overwhelming when we don’t. I adore the outfit, perfect for fall weather and the colors…
