Hi there – Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a really nice weekend and are gearing up for another week.
My week started off a little bit differently than I expected.
I’m not sure if I mentioned this before, but I have quite a long commute into work. I live in the suburbs and get into the city by multiple modes of transportation because it’s quicker, easier, etc. I drive to the bus terminal, take a bus to the subway, and then have a bit of a walk to my office. It’s about an hour and fifteen minutes each way, and while that sounds crazy, it’s totally worth it to work in a place I genuinely like going to each day.
This morning, I was driving in, and was pretty early because I knew I had a busy day ahead. I was driving behind one of those big white “work” vans, and all of a sudden, I see a full-sized tire just coming at me. Even though this all happened in less than a second, I had a few thoughts running through my head:
a) do I swerve into the left lane and potentially cause an accident?
b) do I slam on my breaks, probably still hit the tire and have the car behind me crash into me?
c) do I swerve right to avoid the tire and end up crashing into the curb/grass and destroy my car for sure?
d) do I keep driving, and hope for the best?
I ended up just running over the tire because I really didn’t have a choice. It happened so quickly, but it made a big thump, and then I stopped the car and had to figure out what just happened. I was fine, and got out of the car to look around. I didn’t even see the tire because I think it went backwards! The woman driving behind me stopped to make sure I was okay. She thought the tire just fell off of my car. I thanked her for stopping, and she suggested I move the car (since it looked okay) and assess the damage when I wasn’t in the middle of the road.
To make a long story short, I ended up having to pay an arm and a leg for a tow, a new tire, and a few other things, but it could have been a LOT worse. This was a reminder that driving is scary sometimes and you never know what’s coming at you. I don’t think I’ll ever know where that tire came from, but I guess it doesn’t matter.
I’m just so glad that everything was okay in the end. I wasn’t hurt and hadn’t ended up getting into a really bad accident. I’m sure there was a potential for an accident, maybe if I had swerved into the left lane I wouldn’t have been so lucky! I’m not sure if I would have known what to do if I got into an accident though. A friend of mine was recently in an accident and it sounds like a really scary experience. Lucky they are okay, but I know they had to get help from a law firm called lamber goodnow I think, to help them with their legal case. Hopefully, I won’t end up in a situation like that anytime soon.
Anyway, because of all of this, I ended up working from home today. I didn’t have a car, and aside from not being in the best mood, it wasn’t worth the trek. I hate working at home, but love that I have the option when I need to. I was actually a bit sad because I really loved my outfit today! It was definitely one that had to at very least make an appearance on the blog. I walked up to a new spot I found to take photos, set up the tripod, turned on the camera, and then realized the battery was dead. WHOMP WHOMP.
Later, I went back to my spot, but by then, it looked a bit like rain….
…and after one photo, it just started to pour.
Alas, this isn’t a picture heavy post. Sorry, friends!
