I’ve been back to working a full-time job for less than 3 months and I’ll be honest: I’m really struggling with my work-life balance. Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy to be back in an office environment. I enjoy what I do and I love having somewhere to be everyday. I also love having a reason to get dressed and wear makeup everyday. Most of all though, I’m really digging the whole ‘steady paycheque’ thing!
Work-life balance has always been important to me, but sometimes, it feels like other people who share that sentiment are few and far between. For instance, today I sat in on a motivational talk, from a woman who’s worked her way up the corporate ladder. Someone asked her what her typical workday looks like and she said she likes to get into the office for around 7:00am…and she “tries” to get out by 5:30-6:00pm. Umm….whaaaat?!
I couldn’t have been the only one who thought that sounded totally excessive! Since when is an 11-hour workday “normal?”
The last I heard, it’s not healthy to work that much on a regular basis, but so many of us do. We all need to have interests, hobbies and relationships outside of work. We also need to take time for ourselves – to work out, go shopping, watch Netflix, etc. We need to have this time as, without it, our minds will be overwhelmed with work and this could cause unnecessary stress. Stress that we simply don’t need taking over our lives. Unfortunately, this is how life works and this can happen to anybody, anywhere. Some people even decide to seek out alternative treatments, like medical marijuana, when this happens, and if that involves looking at this map of Arkansas dispensaries for further help, then that is what people must do. You see, when we have our downtime, we want to enjoy this time. We don’t want to worry about what has happened in the past, or what is going to happen in the future. We shouldn’t let it take over our lives.
No one wants to feel stressed, especially during their downtime; it’s no way to live. My friend did this and I saw first hand just how much she suffered. It wasn’t nice. In the end, she found some CBD oils from a place similar to Blessed CBD and said that it wasn’t long until she started to feel better. I’m so glad, as it was starting to take a toll on her personal life. At least I know where to turn if I have the same experience. That’s why it is so important that we are able to take some time away from work during the day and to enjoy any downtime that we have. If you’re struggling to switch off after work, it’s important to find a method of relaxing and de-stressing. Some people find that marijuana helps them to experience feelings of calmness and happiness, ensuring that their downtime is stress-free. Perhaps some people should consider trying to find some of the Pink Tuna strain (Click here to view this). That should help more people to de-stress and experience happiness throughout their downtime.
I make a conscious effort to take time for myself during lunch and I almost never take the full hour. Nobody does! In fact, I’ve never worked with people who regularly took a one-hour lunch break. Is that even a thing anymore? As far as I’m concerned, the concept of the “lunch hour” is really just a myth.
Despite not taking a ton of time for myself during the day, I try to get out of the office at 5:00. Sometimes, I feel like I get a bit of judgment about that, but I schedule a lot of my other commitments in advance. If I didn’t, I’m sure I’d give in and stay at work late more often.
So, how do you manage that struggle to find a work-life balance? You need to know how to prioritize. You also need to accept the fact that there’s no “quick fix.” Striking a work-life balance is an on-going journey. It’s impossible to give 100% to everyone and everything all of the time. It’s a matter of knowing when and how to prioritize your time.
If you’re struggling with striking a work-life balance, just know that you’re not alone!
