Stripes and Polka Dots

in Fashion, Outfit Post on 12/10/14

You know those times in life when you’re constantly busy? Of course you do! That’s the holidays, in a nutshell.

I realize it can be a little bit annoying to hear people “complain” about how busy they are, but sometimes, we’re actually too busy. I’ve been feeling a little bit under the weather this week, so I’m convinced that my jam-packed schedule has finally caught up with me.

There’s still work to be done in the office before some (much needed) vacation time, so no “sick days” for this girl. I’m just taking things easy, and dressing comfortably.

My new “go to” style this fall has been to layer a chunky sweater on top of a dress. I paired two ultra soft pieces together, to create a look that felt like I wearing fancy pyjamas…except that isn’t actually a thing. I finished the look my polka dot scarf, which is one component of the Popbasic Frankie Collection (last seen here).

 What I’m Wearing:

Sweater – Madewell (Similar)

Dress – Brandy Melville (Same)

Purse – Olivia + Joy via Hudson’s Bay (Same)

Scarf – c/o Popbasic (Same)

Boots – Roots (Same)

Necklace – Crafts&Love

Have you tried layering a sweater over a dress?

I’ve tried this look before, but I feel like it will only work with particular sweaters and dresses– like one can’t be too much tighter than the other? The way you did it here is perfect.

Regarding your comment on my blog, to tie the scarf, I actually just held it in my hands (like a snake), put it up against my neck, threw both ends behind my back, and then pulled each end to the opposite shoulder. I tucked those ends under the scarf. They managed to stay in place quite well most the day… until of course I went outside to take pictures. Hope this helps! (And that it makes sense!)

It definitely needs to be a tighter dress with a baggy sweater. I think it would be too much bulk otherwise.

OHH and thank you for explaining your scarf-wrapping method. It totally makes sense to me!

Too busy is right!! I feel like I constantly have to do something, work is hectic, etc, gotta love the holidays! I’ve been living in chunky sweaters too. They’re just the best during this time of the year and no doubt that I love yours!

We’ve endured so.many.challenges this year...but we’ve also had some of the best and most exciting moments of our lives this year.

I still can’t believe we bought a house, got engaged AND got a puppy this year (all within a month)! 🤯

Nobody knows what 2021 will bring, but what we do know is, it will start the same way 2020 ended: at home.

I also know we will finally be finishing and moving into our new home in early 2021, and I CANNOT WAIT!! As for wedding plans...ehh, it’s a little tricky to plan these days, so we’ll cross that bridge a little later 😜

I picked up knitting needles for the first time in 10+ years (maybe more?!) at the start of the pandemic. I bought a DIY unicorn kit and it took me months before I got around to finishing it. Still, I enjoyed it.

So, this year, I thought it would be fun to knit up a few gifts for Christmas presents.

My next project? I’m going to attempt to knit myself a cardigan. 🤭😲🤗
