Stepping into 2017: New Year, New Outfit

in Fashion, Outfit Post on 01/04/17

Stepping into 2017, wearing the Madewell anthem long-sleeve v-neck tee in stripe and GUESS skinny jeans

And just like that, 2017 has arrived! New year, new outfit, new everything! I can’t believe that the holidays are over and that it’s back to the grind. It’s also that time of year when everyone talks about their resolutions and goals. I briefly touched on some of my goals in my 2016 year in review post, but otherwise, I don’t set resolutions. Let’s face it. The novelty of the new year, new you wears off pretty quickly. Instead, I think it’s important to always be open to making positive changes. That being said, I do use January as a time to reflect. You can come pretty far in a year!

As I read the comments on my last post, I realized that a number of you didn’t know that I work for myself now. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. I didn’t announce it, or anything like that. That didn’t seem necessary to me. I’m also not really sure how to summarize my job title. Sure, I’m a full-time blogger, but I also do freelance design, as well as social media management. In all honesty, I also don’t make enough money from blogging (yet), to equal a full-time income. It’s all a work in progress.

Rather than focusing on what I’m not doing, I take the time to reflect on how far I’ve come. I took a trip down memory lane during one of my first shoots in Florida this year. I stayed in the same place that I did three years ago, when I was only a few months into blogging. Naturally, I had to take a look at the posts from back then. Yikes. It was cringeworthy! I shot my photos with a tripod, self-timer and my kit lens. I didn’t know much about photography, nor did I edit my photos. Regardless, at the time, I loved how it all turned out. Oh, and if you’re curious, you can check out some of the posts here, here and here.

Remember: it’s important not to compare yourself to others, but to compare yourself to yourself.

Three years later, I’m still proud of all of the content that I produce, but I think these shots turned out a lot better! Of course, this time, my dad was my photographer instead of a tripod.

Of course – New Year, New Outfit:

If you don’t care about my ~blogging journey~ and all of that fun stuff, let’s chat about today’s outfit! It’s a simple look, but totally in line with my everyday style.

When I got down to Florida, I ordered a few things from Madewell. It’s one of my favourite stores and they don’t have any Canadian locations. I was eager to place an order without the fear of paying an arm and a leg in duties. This striped long sleeve top is definitely a new favourite. It’s so soft and cozy, without looking sloppy. By the way, it’s on super sale, so you should probably buy one.

I’m also wearing a new pair of GUESS jeans. I bought my first pair of GUESS jeans a few months ago and since I love them, I couldn’t resist another pair. Their denim is super comfortable, but also very flattering. If you haven’t tried GUESS jeans before (or if it’s been a number of years), you should give them a try! I went to their spring/summer preview a few weeks ago…and there’s so many cute pieces coming out in the next few months. I can’t wait!

I hope your first day back to the grind was a good one!

It’s definitely a work in progress. I feel like it’s a lot of juggling and uncertainty, but I really enjoy the work. We’ll see how it goes 🙂
