Because my hair is so thin and fine, I’ve always been a little bit self-conscious about it. You might remember that I talked about my hair issues here. Whenever I take photos (blog photos, random selfies, group shots, etc), you will always catch me doing a little hair toss first. The purpose of the toss is to get a little extra volume in the front, to give the illusion that I have thicker, fuller hair.
Over the years, I’ve discovered many styling tools and products that have helped me create the illusion of volume, but I’ve always been curious about extensions. Hair extensions have always made me a little bit nervous, since they often look plastic-y and fake. They also seem like they require too much effort to apply and style…but I’m clearly wearing extensions in today’s post, so you can see that I’m “over” those concerns.
My new hair extensions are from IrresistibleMe. They help me achieve the length and thickness that I’ve always dreamed about having in my hair. I went with the 18″ 140g Royal Golden blonde (#14) Royal Remy Clip-in’s. The 140g set comes with 8 pieces, with one being a super thick weft, made up up 4 clips. I have a very small head, so I’m only wearing the three thickest wefts, and it still gives my hair a lot of extra volume.
The hair itself is thick, soft, shiny and very high quality. Needless to say, I was impressed! They do shed a little bit, so it’s important to brush them out before you wear them.
While the ordering process it simple, I had a little bit of trouble deciding which colour to order, since my hair has a number of different colours in it. Since the extensions are longer than my natural hair, I tried to match the ends of my hair by going with a lighter shade. At the same time, I knew that you’re able to dye hair extensions, so I figured I’d dye them darker if I had to. After you decide on a colour, you chose the length and thickness that you want and then you place the order. One of the main concerns that I had when I eventually decided to get hair extensions was whether or not I would be able to dye them if I needed too. Thankfully I could, but I didn’t want to use a hair dye that could end up damaging my hair extensions as this wouldn’t be good for me at all. That’s when my friend recommended to me that I should have a look at this organic and natural hair dye from Henna so that I wouldn’t end up damaging both my natural and fake hair. Henna is a natural, organic hair dye that makes a great, safe alternative to synthetic hair dyes so I will definitely take the time to consider my options before deciding to dye my hair any more vibrant colors. I guess it’s ok when I’m just making any subtle changes, but not if I want to change my hair to a completely different color.
The golden blonde extensions were too light for me, so I ended up dying them darker. Nothing will be an exact match with my hair colour, but now they blend it much more naturally.
So far, I’ve had a lot of fun with my new look – especially since they’re surprisingly easy to wear. It only takes about 30 seconds to clip them in. The hardest part for me is that my natural hair is so fine, that the clips show a little bit if I don’t put them low enough on my scalp. A simple check in the mirror before leaving the house is the best way to ensure they’re good to go.
I was gifted a set of IrresistibleMe hair extensions for review. All opinions are my own.
