how to wear a poncho sweater

poncho, faux leather leggings and a floppy hat - toronto fashion blogger Photography by Cory
Poncho – Marshall’s (Similar) // Leggings – Aritzia (Similar) // Hat – J.Crew Factory // Boots – UGGS // Purse – Gap (Similar) // Necklace – c/o Foxy Originals

As you can probably tell, these photos were taken before I left for Florida. What you probably can’t tell is that we chose the coldest/windiest day of the entire month to shoot these photos. At one point, a strong gust of wind blew the hat off of my head, which meant that I had to chase it half way down the street. Not fun guys, not fun.

But…you know what is fun? Wearing a poncho…especially when said poncho has a hood and fringe detailing. Ponchos are very popular this season, but they can be a little bit tricky to pull off. Here’s my tips for how to wear a poncho sweater:

Keep your outfit balanced.
Since ponchos are oversized, stick with leggings or skinny jeans, so you don’t look like you’re drowning in your outfit.

Stick with colours/patterns that you feel comfortable in.
If you typically wear neutrals, maybe this isn’t the time to experiment with brights.

Pair the poncho with your favourite accessories.
Do you feel polished when you put on a floppy hat or killer pair of heels? Throw them on with the poncho and see how it makes you feel!

UGH, it’s literally the worst, because aside from how awful it feels, your hair gets messy and makeup runs and it’s just not pretty.

I definitely didn’t wear ponchos back in those days. I was the least fashionable person ever back then! I love fringes and hoods, so when I saw this poncho had both, I was like…YES.

I love my poncho from Old Navy, but it doesn’t have a hood. Now I want one with a hood! And that’s some serious fringe going on. Great find!

2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all r 2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all remember. It’s been a big rollercoaster, but there’s no one else I’d rather ride it with than @woodley.matt 🥰

We’ve endured so.many.challenges this year...but we’ve also had some of the best and most exciting moments of our lives this year.

I still can’t believe we bought a house, got engaged AND got a puppy this year (all within a month)! 🤯

Nobody knows what 2021 will bring, but what we do know is, it will start the same way 2020 ended: at home.

I also know we will finally be finishing and moving into our new home in early 2021, and I CANNOT WAIT!! As for wedding plans...ehh, it’s a little tricky to plan these days, so we’ll cross that bridge a little later 😜

Wishing you all a safe and happy new year at home! 🥳 (which I’m totally okay with - I’m a 👵🏻 anyways)
