Happy Monday! What an incredible weekend we just had. It was warm and sunny and perfect for the softball tournament I had. If it was up to me, there would have been fewer bees and a championship won on my part, but you can’t have everything your way.
Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit crazy when it comes to experimenting with my outfits. Maybe my recent purchase started this trend? Keep in mind, I’m in no way shape or form and sort of high fashion model (clearly, since I’m only 5″1′ and curvy), so if I can wear it, you can wear it. Trust me. In this case, I’m talking about pattern mixing. Have you ever worn plaid and stripes together in one outfit?
Playing with different colours and patterns is why fashion is so much fun. In a sense, combining different patterns is a bit “wrong,” but it’s also so right. I’ve seen a lot of bloggers put together outfits with multiple patterns, and they’ve inspired me to give it a try. This is why, the other day, I decided to wear both plaid and stripes. The plaid shirt is also a mix of patterns, so it was a little out there. In my opinion, there’s a few points to keep in mind:
Tips for mixing patterns
1. Keep the colour palettes complimentary.
This will help create a unified look and feel to your outfit.
2. Tone down the accessories a little bit.
The focus needs to be on the outfit. If you have too many wild accessories, you’ll end up looking like a hot mess!
3. Wear the outfit with confidence.
This is one of the most important points to keep in mind. Whether or not you can “pull off” a look all comes down to how confident you are when you’re out. If you give off the impression that you’re confident with your look, other people will pick up on that.
What I’m Wearing:
Dress – Madewell (Similar)
Booties – Urban Outfitters (Similar)
Bag – Gap (Similar)
Necklace – Target (Similar)
Have you tried mixing different prints or patterns before?
