Something About That

Floral Fever

in Fashion, Outfit Post on 03/19/14

Happy Hump day!

Today is shaping up to be a busy day, with two client meetings and a whole lot of work to do in the office. I wish I could just freeze time for a little while to be able to catch up on everything I need to do. It seems like everything needs to be done instantly in order for people to be happy! Is social media to blame for that?

Speaking of which, I’ve been such a social media fiend these days! I definitely blame signing up for Twitter a little while ago. I’m always finding cool articles to read, and found an article from @WhoWhatWear especially interesting. The article outlined how much of your monthly income you should really be spending on shopping. Any guesses? They’re saying that a “good” figure is around 5% of your take home salary. This means, if you bring home $3000/month, you should only spend about $150/month.

Obviously, this number depends on your living situation and other expenses, but I was pretty shocked by that. I mean…I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure I spend more than 5% of my income on shopping. Why shouldn’t I? I don’t have anything else to spend my money on, so I like to treat myself once in a while. I am helping the economy after all, and when the economy is good, you should make the most out of it, like my friend is. She has recently looked at how making day trading investments can help her to generate a second income. Why? Because she wants to spend more money on her shopping habits, of course, and looking at how the stock market is fairing could help her to get more money back. She’s even starting to look into cryptocurrency and check things like this Coinbase GebΓΌhren im Vergleich (Coinbase fees compared) article to find a platform that she likes before getting started with crypto. It seems SUPER technical but more power to her! Like me, she definitely spends more than 5% of her income on shopping, so every little helps right? Even a vacation is an excuse for me to pick up a few new items at the mall. (Ps – if you missed the posts, you can look at some snapshots here and an outfit here)

I’m excited to share the last of my vacation posts. I’m rocking my favourite print – floral.

Florals are always popular for spring and summer, and I was so excited when I saw this maxi skirt at Forever 21 a few weeks ago. I love that it has the slits in the front, to keep it a bit edgy (but no photos because when I tried to show off the slits, I looked incredibly awkward). Another fun feature of the skirt is that it has a pair of shorts built into it…just in case it’s windy, I guess.

OUTFIT DETAILS:
Tank – Alternative Apparel (Old, but this one’s close) // Skirt – Forever 21 (Same) // Clutch – Gap (Similar)
Necklace – Boutique in Florida (This one is cute) // Sandals – Cole Haan via Sak’s Off Fifth (Similar)

Thoughts on the article? There’s no way I’m alone in shopping “too much,” right?!?!??

Love these fresh florals on you! And what an interesting article. I’m not sure if it applies to me though, since I usually go a while without buying anything, and then I go on a massive shopping spree, haha.

I love this! I want a floral maxi now. I’ve always thought floor length floral skirts as my crunchy granola 1 st grade teacher, but they so aren’t when styled like this!

I used to think that too (though my description was less lol-worthy)…but they’ve really grown on me. I think it’s all about that slit in this one.

I definitely need to rein the spending in, then, seeing as I’m not really making money as a student and I still spend a ton on clothes ;P Also, you couldn’t have found a better necklace to pair with that skirt; even the lilac jewels bring out the leaves in the print.

I was shocked by that number! 5% of my monthly salary means I can spend aboooout $50 a month. Um, yeah like that every happens haha. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one!

That is interesting $3000/month here in the states and especially in NY is not a lot of money and I guess neither is $150 but that said $3000 in NY many other parts of the states would not even leave that much over for clothes. But getting a skirt at Forever 21..priceless.
