Happy Sunday! It’s a long weekend for us in Canada, but sadly, the weather has been a little bit wonky. It’s cold, windy and rainy, so I’ve been spending a lot of my time indoors. Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sounds! This is the first weekend in about a month that I’ve had no plans, so I’m relaxing and getting some work done. I also went to a fitness class yesterday, which inspired me to share some of my current favourite workout gear. Because whether it’s finding the right trainers or a correctly fitting plus size sports bra, buying comfortable and good quality workout gear is important.
And no, that wasn’t a type-o. You read that correctly: I went to a fitness class.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a long time, you may remember that a couple of years ago I was “into” fitness. I had a gym membership, I ran 10k races, and I ran obstacle course races (here’s a recap from my first one in 2013). I even used to supplement my workouts with a pre workout drink to give my body an extra boost! I gave up my gym membership about 2 and a half years ago, because I had gradually stopped using it. Even though I was in the best shape of my life not too long before that, I really didn’t “enjoy” the gym experience.
Going to the gym stressed me out because I never knew which machines to use – let alone how to use them. I usually stuck to the same routine each time, since I hated trying to figure out what workouts to do. It felt easier to stick with what I knew, because I didn’t want to use machines incorrectly. As you can imagine, workouts were always pretty tedious and quite boring!
Eventually, I stopped working out all together. Fitness was no longer an important part of my life.
Over the last couple of months, I’ve gradually started being more active again, since I’ve been invited to some fitness events. Even though I’m far from being in shape, I’ve really enjoyed these events. Each type of workout has been unique, but the commonality is that they’re all fitness classes. Since I’ve enjoyed the classes so much, I’ve been wanting to try more. The biggest hurdle for me is that most of the “cool” studios and workout classes are all downtown.
And let’s be real – I’m not going to commute over an hour each way to go to the gym!
Recently, I noticed that there was an Orange Theory studio near my house. It seemed like a cool concept – group personal training workout classes. Well, the other day, I was in a rancid mood and wanted to get out of the house. It felt like the right time to check out the Orange Theory studio. I tried one of their complimentary classes and really liked it, so I signed up. You only have to commit on a month-to-month basis and the prices are very reasonable, so I figured I had nothing to lose.
Now that I’m back to somewhat more regular workouts, I’ve been on the hunt for some new gear! Especially on the look out for shoes (for example those from somewhere like https://www.ryderwear.com/collections/shoes) since having the right kind of workout shoes could help prevent injury. I’ve also been thinking about getting into hiking, and I’ll definitely need the right gear for that! Something I could do is use duck boots for hiking, but I think it’s best to read a review on Outdoor Command on whether this is a good choice in footwear or not.

Ahh all such cute workout wear!
I used to be the same about going to the gym – it can be intimidating not knowing how some of the machines work! We have a gym in my apartment building that’s accessible to all residents. I’m a bit of an early bird so I usually get up at 5:30 am to go work out and usually no one is up at that hour and I get the gym to myself! I started figuring out how all the equipment worked then (let myself look like an idiot but no one would see hehe) so now I don’t find myself *as* intimidated anymore.

Wow, you get MAJOR kudos for waking up that early and working out! I’ve never been able to do that! In the past, I’ve tried waking up early to work out and I always end up feeling kind of sick from that. You are goals!!

I can only use the water bottle and the bag for myself ((0)).
Have a good day!!
