I have a bit of a weird complex when it comes to getting rid of things. It’s not like I’m anywhere close to being a hoarder, but I struggle with getting rid of things sometimes, even when it’s a bit ridiculous. Shall I elaborate?
Before I entered the corporate world, I spent a number of years working at a family-owned boutique, whose primary focus was premium denim. This was an amazing time in my life, and I have a lot of good memories from the days at the store. I also accumulated quite the collection of jeans, as you can imagine.
It’s been a few years since I worked at the store, and while some of my jeans are still in rotation, many of them are collecting dust in my closet. Some of them don’t fit, and some of them are a bit out-dated looking.
Every time I do a closet purge, I try to get rid of some of the jeans I know I’m not going to wear anymore…but I always struggle to let them go! I really don’t know if it’s because they’re tied to memories of the good ol’ days, or if it’s just because I hate giving up expensive things. Even if I take them to the Best Pawn Shop and get some money back for them, regardless, the issue is definitely there.
But. It’s not always an “issue.”
I’ve been noticing that wide-legged and flared jeans are back in style, which means I’ve been eager to wear them again. Instead of going out and buying a pair, I remembered that I had some in my closet that I haven’t worn in years.
Lesson learned. Don’t get rid of stuff.
