Dressing Up a Graphic Tee

in Fashion, Outfit Post on 08/15/14

I know I’m getting old when I see trends coming back into style.

Recently, I came to realize that a lot of the trends that are big for this fall are ones that I’ve already experienced. I’ve already lived through an overalls craze, and even sported a bit of the grunge look. When I was in grade school, I thought I looked so “cool” when I walked around the halls with a sweater tied around my waist!

What’s always interesting is to see how designers modernize these sorts of styles the next time around.

Take graphic tees as an example. Looking back about ten years, I loved wearing graphic tees. They were always very casual, and a lot of them were varsity-inspired. It seemed like the main goal with wearing these styles was to sport the name of the company as large as possible for everyone to see. At my high school, you were like, totally cool when you wore Abercrombie & Fitch tees. I always felt extra special when I wore Abercombie, because they didn’t have any Canadian locations at the time.

Granted, the retro/varsity vibe is still in style because it’s a bit retro, but it seems like graphic tees have also evolved into a more mature, chic, sub-sector. Thank you very much, J.Crew! I even came to discover that Banana Republic has some cute graphic tees in their fall line, thanks to Tracy’s Notebook of Style.

I recently styled a graphic tee of mine with a classic A-line skirt. While I dressed it down for a summer day at the office with my well-loved denim jacket, it just felt like I gave the old idea of a graphic tee a new twist. I’m excited about seeing more of this, come fall!

I love that graphic tee! I had a ton of Abercrombie graphic tees! One of my favorites said “Guys make nice pets” Ha! I wore that to an outdoor bar once and people were stopping me like I was a celeb! I love how you styled this tee! That skirt is so flattering and the necklace and denim jacket is perfection! The sandals give a great causal vibe! xo

HAHAHA no way, that sounds like quite the tee!

Thanks so much. As much as I love my wedges, some days just call for flats.

Your outfit is really cute and casual. I didn’t know BR did graphic Tees! I’ve only owned one graphic Tee, but I’ve actually been dying to get one and wear it casually under a blazer. Thanks for the heads up!

I didn’t either, so I was glad to stumble across it on a blog the other day. I don’t have too many graphic tees either, but I feel like I wear the ones I have so often that I should probably get more.

You’ve dressed the otherwise basic tee well, and rocking Birks whilst you’re at it!

Thank you so much. I really don’t wear heels all that often, so when I shoot for the blog, I don’t want to lie about my style 🙂
