On April 22, 2013, I did something that would ultimately change my life. I hit ‘publish’ on my very first blog post. Can you believe that it’s been four years since I launched Something About That? Naturally, that first post makes me cringe. The photos are not only unflattering, but they’re poor quality and out of focus. I mentioned how awkward the post was multiple times. And it was awkward! That being said, we all start somewhere and I don’t ever plan to delete that post. It’s a part of my blog’s humble beginnings and it’s a great reminder that we all start somewhere.
Back then, I never would have thought I’d still be blogging 4 years later. I definitely never thought that it would become such an important part of my life. At the time, I kept my blog a secret from most people. I was worried that people would think I was being vain or narcissistic by posting photos of myself online.
Considering I’ve been blogging full-time for several months now, it’s obvious that blogging has changed my life. I can’t imagine what my life would be like today if I wasn’t a blogger. Something About That (and my social handle @jackmise) has not only become my career, but also, my identity. My life revolves around the internet and this blog and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Sure, it can be frustrating when you don’t see the growth you’d like. It’s also disheartening when you have a slow week and wonder what you’ve been doing wrong. But, looking back, I can see that I’ve come a long way. In blogging (and in life), you should only compare yourself to yourself. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. I’m excited about what’s to come. My guess is that it’s going to be bigger and better!
