One of my favourite ways to catch up with my friends is to spend a night in. I’d choose a night of chatting, laughing, eating and drinking over going “out” every time. Life is busy and my friends and I all lead very different lives, but it’s important to carve out time to catch up with each other. It’s the only way to maintain those important friendships.
As you go through life, you’ll always meet new people and make new friendships. At the same time, you lose touch with friends. I’ve lost touch with so many people over the years. It’s not because of any conflict per say, but life changes and it happens. Of course, there’s always those few special friendships that you maintain over the years. To this day, some of my closest and more cherished friendships are with the ladies I was friends with in high school. These are friends that I may not talk to everyday, nor do I see them that often, but when we do, we’re able to pick up where we left off.
Then, there’s my best friend, Samantha. We met just before high school and have been friends ever since. Our personalities are so different from each other, but I think that might be one of the reasons we get along so well. She’s low-maintenance, laid back and very blunt. I am none of those things. Our lives are also quite different from each other. She’s married, owns a home and has a 4-month-old baby, named Henry. I am not married, have no kids and I still live at home. Very different, right?
Samantha is only 4 months into motherhood, but it looks good on her! As a new mom, she works so hard. She spends all day and night with her son and she seldom gets a break. I love and adore her son and enjoy spending time with him, but it’s been a hot minute since we’ve spent time together, just the two of us.
When an opportunity came up to spend a night at Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto, I was so excited. It was a perfect excuse to have a much-needed best friends staycation! When I threw the invitation out to her, she jumped at the chance. After all, aside from looking forward to girl time, who wouldn’t want to spend a night in one of the largest and most luxurious accommodations in the city? She was definitely a little bit nervous about leaving Henry, but I would have been too. Being a mom just makes things a little bit more difficult for when it comes to things. I know that all of us would probably love to go on a vacation and stay in somewhere like the EVEN Eugene hotel. But we just don’t have the time to do that now. Being a mother changes you, I have one friend who doesn’t have any children who goes off on her travels whenever she wants. For her, being able to get away from the world helps her relax. She even uses a company called NetJets to help her get to her vacation spots. She’s lucky like that I guess, but I would never give up being a mother. It’s fine though, because now we can have a staycation.
As soon as we arrived onto the Trump Toronto property, we were blown away by the service. All of the staff were friendly, welcoming and gracious. During the check-in process, the concierge overheard us talking about her thoughts on being away from her baby for the first time. He chimed into the conversation and asked if it was a boy of a girl. Before we knew it, he pulled out an adorable little plush toy and offered it to her as a little souvenir. We were floored by that gesture! It’s little things like that, which really set the experience at Trump Toronto apart for us.
When we arrived at our room, we couldn’t believe how luxurious it was. Not only was the suite beautiful and welcoming, but in the seating area, but there were sweet treats waiting for us. The team had left us a selection of beautiful chocolates and sweets, which came with a personalized ‘welcome’ message. They also set up an adorable “tea and scones” bar for us to enjoy that afternoon.
Since that wasn’t enough, there were more sweet treats waiting for us in the bedroom. Beautiful cakes, macarons, tarts and a bottle of wine. It was unbelievable!
One of our favourite rooms in the suite was the master washroom. The floor and walls were all marble (you know, things I dream about as a blogger). There was a beautiful giant mirror, as well as a double sink, so there was plenty of room for all of our makeup and beauty products. The mirror also had a built-in 22″ TV, so we turned on the Food Network and watched in there, because we could. The toilet was in a separate room, which we deemed the “poo room” (my wording, not theirs). Last but not least, the washroom also had heated floors! The lights and floor temperature were all controllable by a futuristic little touch pad.
Since we both live outside of the city, there’s so many restaurants that we want to try. We’ve both wanted to try Peace Treats, for one of their ridiculous gourmet milkshakes. Since we had so many sweets waiting for us at the hotel, we decided to take a rain cheque on that idea. Instead, we decided to walk over to Wilbur Mexicana for tacos, because a good taco is hard to find outside of the city. The walk seemed like a good idea, because we knew we were about to consume a lot of calories that night! Despite the rainy weather doing a number on my hair, it was worth the walk. They have delicious tacos and phenomenal chips and guac.
In hindsight, we didn’t even have to leave the hotel to enjoy our best friends staycation. Within the Trump Toronto hotel, you can dine at the America Restaurant and Bar & Lounge, located on the 31st floor. Though we ate dinner elsewhere, I had lunch at America Restaurant earlier that week and the food was out of this world. If you decide to dine there too, you need to order the truffle fries. Trust me!
When we got back to the room, there were more surprises waiting for us! Two cozy robes, water, boxes of chocolates, and a breakfast menu. No best friends staycation getaway is complete without breakfast in bed, so we made sure to place an order before going to sleep for the night. Not only do you get to choose what to eat and drink, but you also choose the delivery time in advance.
Since we’re total grandmas, we changed into our PJ’s and threw on the robes as soon as we got settled after dinner. We poured ourselves some wine and spent the rest of the night drinking, eating way too many desserts, chatting and watching Sex and the City. It doesn’t get more cliché than that, but it was perfect.
Sure enough, the next morning, breakfast arrived and wow – what a spread! Everything looked and smelled amazing, but Samantha knows what it’s like to be best friends with a blogger. I warned her that she was not allowed to touch anything until I took 90483290 photos of our food. She obliged and watched me “do my thing,” but it’s not like she had a choice in the matter.
Once I was done shooting my photos, we indulged in breakfast in bed, once again in our robes. It was relaxing and glorious!
I would have been happy to stay in bed lounging around all day, but we had to take a trip to the PUREBEAUTY Salon & Spa at the Trump Hotel! As you can imagine, the experience at the spa was incredible. The PUREBEAUTY Salon & Spa is two-levels and 15,000 square-feet of luxury. In addition to being a fully licensed spa (hello, champagne and manicures!), they have a beautiful fitness centre, 65-foot heated indoor saltwater pool and a whirlpool. They even have palm trees in there to make you feel like you’re in the tropics.
We both opted for manicures, complete with a glass of champagne. The manicure included all of the basics (nail trim, cuticle nourishment, etc), as well as a hot stone hand massage and intense moisturizer. It was pure bliss and definitely the most relaxing manicure I’ve ever had in my life! We also made sure to enjoy the VIP area of the spa to finish sipping champagne while our nails dried.
All and all, my experience at Trump Toronto was incredible. Politics aside, their staff are fantastic and the attention to detail is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. If you’re thinking about taking a little ‘best friends staycation’ getaway, you won’t be disappointed if you book it there.
A BIG thank you so much to the staff at Trump Hotel! We were provided a complimentary stay, but all opinions are my own.
