Easy, Breezy Floral Box-Pleat Skirt

in Fashion, Outfit Post on 08/23/16

Just because it’s the end of the summer does not mean that it’s time to put the floral prints away. In fact, this floral box-pleat skirt was in the new arrivals section at Banana Republic. To me, that’s an indicator that the floral skirt is a great “wear now, wear later” piece. Any item that you can wear throughout multiple seasons (like the t-shirt dress I recently styled), is worth the investment. Of course, I did score the skirt for 40% off, so there’s that. Click through to see how I styled this floral skirt for late summer:

You may remember that I included this skirt in one of my Instagram flat-lay’s a couple of weeks ago. I took the photo the same day I bought it… because as a style blogger, that’s what I do when I buy new clothes. Doesn’t everyone do that? Maybe? Anyway, it’s quickly become one of my favourite skirts and I may even like it better than my button-front skirt.

How to wear this floral box-pleat skirt

While the weather is warm enough, I’m going to wear this skirt with a half-tucked tee or tank and cute sandals. A lot of my tops are long, so they look awkward if they’re worn un-tucked with a skirt. On the other hand, if you try to tuck a longer top into a skirt, it looks bulky. As far as I’m concerned, whoever came up with the idea for the “half-tuck” look is a genius. When it’s hot and sticky outside, that’s all you need to look stylish and put together.

Now that we’re starting to get some cooler mornings, it’s best to throw on a cargo jacket like I did here, or maybe a denim jacket. When the real fall weather arrives, I’ll switch out the peep toe sandals for ankle booties, add tights (even though I hate them), and finish the look off with a cozy cardigan.

It’s so good to know that florals are here to stay! It’s tricky buying pieces in transition seasons because you want to make sure you can wear it for a while. Loving this skirt and the pleats!

I love how floral print can transition so well from season to season! I especially like when the floral is dark like yours! I just got a floral skirt but it doesn’t fit me so I have to wait until after I have the baby to wear it…hopefully I got it in the right size. lol

2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all r 2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all remember. It’s been a big rollercoaster, but there’s no one else I’d rather ride it with than @woodley.matt 🥰

We’ve endured so.many.challenges this year...but we’ve also had some of the best and most exciting moments of our lives this year.

I still can’t believe we bought a house, got engaged AND got a puppy this year (all within a month)! 🤯

Nobody knows what 2021 will bring, but what we do know is, it will start the same way 2020 ended: at home.

I also know we will finally be finishing and moving into our new home in early 2021, and I CANNOT WAIT!! As for wedding plans...ehh, it’s a little tricky to plan these days, so we’ll cross that bridge a little later 😜

Wishing you all a safe and happy new year at home! 🥳 (which I’m totally okay with - I’m a 👵🏻 anyways)

I picked up knitting needles for the first time in 10+ years (maybe more?!) at the start of the pandemic. I bought a DIY unicorn kit and it took me months before I got around to finishing it. Still, I enjoyed it.

So, this year, I thought it would be fun to knit up a few gifts for Christmas presents.

My next project? I’m going to attempt to knit myself a cardigan. 🤭😲🤗

Christmas 2020 - like many things this year, not “normal,” but we made plenty of memories.

We had a low-key Christmas morning, filled with Bailey’s coffee, Miller snuggles (and weird facial expressions) and cinnamon buns. We finished off the day with a Jewish Christmas dinner: Chinese take out!

Happy thanksgiving!! 🍂🍁 Even though it hasn Happy thanksgiving!! 🍂🍁

Even though it hasn’t been a “normal” Thanksgiving weekend, there is so much to be thankful for.

One (very) small thing I’m thankful for is that I took Matt’s advice on forgoing my usual butter-only pie crust recipe for one that includes shortening. I used the pumpkin pie recipe from @sallysbakeblog - including the mix of shortening and butter in the crust. I think it was my best pumpkin pie yet!
(The Turkey was fantastic too of course 😏)
