My 10 Favourite Things About Fall

in Fashion, Lifestyle on 10/25/16

I can’t believe that it’s the end of October and that we’re already into the middle of fall. Summer feels like it was ages ago and it seems as though a lot of people are already thinking about the holidays. Is it just me, or does the holiday season seem to creep up earlier every year? No word of a lie, I saw a Christmas commercial last week. Come on, people! Christmas ads should begin after Halloween. Fall is such a beautiful season, so I never understand why people want to rush through it. We will have plenty of time to experience the holidays, as well as winter, so why not enjoy what’s left of the fall? With that, let’s chat about my 10 favourite things about fall.

My 10 favourite things about fall - according to Toronto fashion blogger, Jackie Goldhar, from Something About That

My 10 Favourite Things About Fall:

1. The Leaves Changing Colours

Leaves changing colours is one of my favourite parts of the fall

The leaves changing colours is one of the most obvious signs of fall, as well as one of the most beautiful. It sounds a bit cheesy, but I love to drive down certain roads at this time of year, just to look at how pretty the leaves are. It makes me feel all the feels! When the leaves are shades of red, yellow and orange, it’s a perfect time to get outside and take beautiful, scenic photos. I just wish the leaves didn’t fall off the trees so quickly.

2. Pumpkins

Pumpkins are one of my favourite parts of autumn

I can’t help it – I just love pumpkins! They’re beautiful, fun, and symbolic of this time of the year. Also, who doesn’t have memories of carving pumpkins from being a kid?

3. Pumpkin Spice Latte

McDonald's speciality coffees, specifically, the McCafé Pumpkin Spice latte is one of my favourite fall treats

Okay, so maybe one of the reasons I love pumpkins so much, is because I happen to love pumpkin spice lattes. The rich, warm spices are some of my favourite, so I can’t help but look forward to them every year. My friend told me about a great coffee supplier Birmingham, which I will definitely have to investigate if I ever get over to the UK!

This year, as a part of their improved McCafé specialty line, McDonald’s has come out with a revamped, must-try pumpkin spice latte. Their PSL’s are made with real pumpkin, steamed milk, and they’re finished off with a dusting of pumpkin spice. So good!

In case you haven’t been to McCafé in a while, you should make a point to go and try one of their specialty coffees. A couple of months ago, I was invited to a media event, where I got to taste and learn about their espresso and specialty coffees. All of their specialty coffees are made with 100% Arabica espresso beans, so they’re full-bodied, smooth-tasting, and most importantly, delicious! What not everyone knows is that McCafé espresso beans are 100% Rainforest Alliance certified and are grown and harvested with respect and care for the people, wildlife and the environment. Also, because each drink is made to order, I usually get my pumpkin spice lattes half sweet, with skim milk.

I enjoyed it so much, I’ve been thinking about purchasing a coffee machine of my own for back home. Just the other day, my friend recommended The Full Moon Cafe website to me. They have lots of reviews of different coffee machine brands like Cuisinart as well as other coffee making equipment. I’ll definitely be taking a look to help me decide which model to go for!

4. Fall Flavours

Mc Donald's McCafé Pumpkin spice muffin and mini maple pastries - delicious fall treats

Let’s be real…it’s not just the pumpkin spice lattes that I love. I love all of the fall flavours, including pumpkin spice everything! At the tasting, McCafé also got me hooked on their freshly-baked pastries and muffins. The maple pastries go really well with the PSL, but I also love the pumpkin spice muffin, since it isn’t overly sweet. When I have the time, I also love whipping up my own fall treats. There’s nothing better than the aroma of fall baking at home!

5. Cozy Sweaters

Cozy sweaters are one of my favourite parts of autumn or fall

Don’t get me wrong – I love the summer heat and those hot sticky days…but I also love sweater weather. Then again, who doesn’t love fall fashion?

6. Blanket Scarves

Fall fashion - blanket scarf from Madewell and a cozy burgundy cardigan from Aritzia

On a similar note, I also love to bundle up in a blanket scarf! Blanket scarves are cute, cozy, and I always feel stylish AF when I wear them. Having created a Make a Fleece Photo Blanket recently, I can tell you there is nothing better than feeling wrapped up in a warm and cozy blanket.

7. Candles

Jackie Goldhar is a Canadian fashion and lifestyle blogger and one of her favourite parts of fall are candles

There’s something special about having a candle burning when you’re at home relaxing during the fall and winter months. They make a room feel warm and inviting, and if you have scented candles, they make the room smell nice, too. I also have to add, they make fantastic props for Instagram. Just sayin’.

8. Dark, vampy lips

Dark, vampy lips for fall, as well as a blanket scarf from Madewell

When it comes to make-up, I tend to focus more on my skin and lips, than on my eyes. I really love to play with a bold lip, especially since I discovered how to avoid getting lipstick on my teeth. I’m not a huge fan of bright summer lipstick, (I feel like those colours make my teeth look yellow), but I love a dark, vampy lip. So edgy and chic, don’t you think? Speaking of my teeth, recently I have been thinking about treating myself to a teeth whitening treatment. One of my friends got hers done by a Dentist in Citrus Heights and I am incredibly envious of her new pearly white smile. I am going to have to do some more research first as I know that there are a number of different teeth whitening options out there and it is also crucial that you keep up with your dentist appointments to make sure you stay on top of your oral hygiene too. Have you ever had your teeth whitened? Let me know in the comments.

9. Boots

Skinny jeans, Roots cabin socks and UGG Chelsea boots - Fall fashion favourites

Boots add so much style and personality to an outfit. They’re also flattering! I have very short legs, so I feel a bit stumpy when I wear flats or sandals. I always feel like my legs look longer and leaner in boots. They’re also significantly more comfortable to wear than sandals.

10. Good Hair Weather

Favourite parts of fall - good hair days and pumpkins

For me, fall is the season with the most good hair days. Summer humidity can make a girl go crazy trying to keep her hair in place, and the dryness of winter can make your hair go flat. Aside from those rainy days, you don’t have these sorts of issues during the fall.

A big thank you to McCafé for partnering with me on this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

I love all of these things about fall too (but substitute the pumpkin spice lattes for mocha). I have not worn a pair of boots yet… it is still in the low 80s here and I just can’t yet. But I have stopped wearing sandals so that it something!

I saw a Christmas commercial last week too! I even commented to my husband that it was WAY too early. Also, I walked in to Home Depot and Christmas was everywhere. I am not ok with any of that. I get they start early but at least wait until after Halloween!

2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all r 2020 has without a doubt been a year we will all remember. It’s been a big rollercoaster, but there’s no one else I’d rather ride it with than @woodley.matt 🥰

We’ve endured so.many.challenges this year...but we’ve also had some of the best and most exciting moments of our lives this year.

I still can’t believe we bought a house, got engaged AND got a puppy this year (all within a month)! 🤯

Nobody knows what 2021 will bring, but what we do know is, it will start the same way 2020 ended: at home.

I also know we will finally be finishing and moving into our new home in early 2021, and I CANNOT WAIT!! As for wedding plans...ehh, it’s a little tricky to plan these days, so we’ll cross that bridge a little later 😜

Wishing you all a safe and happy new year at home! 🥳 (which I’m totally okay with - I’m a 👵🏻 anyways)

I picked up knitting needles for the first time in 10+ years (maybe more?!) at the start of the pandemic. I bought a DIY unicorn kit and it took me months before I got around to finishing it. Still, I enjoyed it.

So, this year, I thought it would be fun to knit up a few gifts for Christmas presents.

My next project? I’m going to attempt to knit myself a cardigan. 🤭😲🤗

Christmas 2020 - like many things this year, not “normal,” but we made plenty of memories.

We had a low-key Christmas morning, filled with Bailey’s coffee, Miller snuggles (and weird facial expressions) and cinnamon buns. We finished off the day with a Jewish Christmas dinner: Chinese take out!

I’m finishing up the last of the gifting projects and then it’s onto baking cookies! 💁🏼‍♀️

I *think* I know what I’ll be baking...but I’m having a tough time committing 🤪

Even though it hasn’t been a “normal” Thanksgiving weekend, there is so much to be thankful for.

One (very) small thing I’m thankful for is that I took Matt’s advice on forgoing my usual butter-only pie crust recipe for one that includes shortening. I used the pumpkin pie recipe from @sallysbakeblog - including the mix of shortening and butter in the crust. I think it was my best pumpkin pie yet!
